It was a windy day when Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel went into Briar Wood. Bagel’s eyes were glued to the brown figure and Jazmine wondered why Harley the Good Witch had brought them there. She welcomed them to Briar Wood and asked them to join in the search of the Gold Bone along with everyone else in the mountains. The wind was getting wilder and the Spirit of the Western Mountains asked the weather to hold its breath. They were all excited and made friends with Harley the Good Witch as the wagon moved. Suddenly everything, including their conversation, came to a stop. They saw Paw Harvest who was also searching for the gold bone. Would they be able to find the gold bone?

Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel: A Search for a Gold Bone by Irene Dolnick is a fun story that will leave readers with a smile and warmth. Lesley Anne’s illustrations are delightful as the bonding of the characters adds color and life to the story. The author has masterfully woven the adventure and themes of friendship, sharing, and good deeds into the plot seamlessly, giving it good movement and fluidity. The book is also educational as it covers the ‘br’ sound and helps children understand sounding out the word properly. It is a good book for tutors to use for storytelling sessions in classrooms to have a fun and interactive session with their students. Parents can also use it at home to have an interesting conversation with their kids and relive their adventures through the eyes of the characters in the story.”
